A seminar of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian society (IPPO) was held in Nizhny Novgorod
On April 18, 2012, metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas took part in the seminar of the heads of regional departments of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society.
The plenary session was held in the building of the Nizhny Novgorod region Government. Regional and local authorities, as well as scientists and heads of regional departments of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society gathered for the session.
Minister of internal affairs Dmitry Shurov greeted the participants on behalf of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod region. Then the welcome address of chairman of the IPPO Sergey Stepashin was read out.
Metropolitan Georgy congratulated those who attended the session on the feast of Pascha and wished them fruitful work during the seminar. His Eminence highlighted the historical role the IPPO played in maintaining traditions of pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The Most Rev. Georgy sheared his own experience with the others. “The pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a form of divine worship”, Metropolitan Georgy said. “Therefore representatives of the diocese, as well as regional and local authorities, have been making regular pilgrimage trips with the support of the St. Seraphim of Sarov Charity Fund for many years. A great number of educators and workers in the art also join pilgrims in their trips on a free basis. We believe that this experience promotes their spiritual growth”.
His Eminence Metropolitan Georgy also emphasized the effective work of the Pilgrim Center of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. Each year the Center sends numerous pilgrims to the Holy Land.
